Man United to hand Lee Grant a new contract: report

Manchester United are to hand Lee Grant a new contract this summer.

Manchester United Football Club have been brilliant in the goalkeeping department of late. From David de Gea to Dean Henderson with a little Sergio Romero sprinkled in the middle.

The man often forgotten about is Lee Grant. Well, it seems as though the former Stoke City man is still firmly in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

According to The Daily Star on Sunday, United are to extend the contract of the veteran who is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Red Devils.

It’s understandably described as a ‘shock new contract’ for Grant, whose only two appearances for the Old Trafford club have come in the League Cup and Europa League.

There may well be a slight change in Grant’s role, though, with this new deal murmured to be a player-coach one. At this time, Grant is currently doing his coaching badges, with United considering adding them to their playing staff.

Understandably, it’s tough for Grant at this time. He wants to play week-in-week-out football, though he was never going to get that at the Theatre of Dreams.

I don’t doubt that he’d be a reliable shot-stopper when called upon, the problem is, he’s got a couple of mega-talented goalkeepers in front of him.

If United think Grant has it in him to positively impact this coaching staff, then why not explore that route? Plus, he’d be available in the event that Solskjaer’s goalkeeping department is ever strongly hurt with injuries.

Hopefully, the money is good for Grant, while he’d get a brilliant opportunity to further his coaching career ahead of hanging up the goalkeeper-gloves for good.
