Manchester United Football Club are set for Dean Henderson talks next week, as the Old Trafford club look to outline their future plans for the Englishman.
According to the Daily Mail, United will hold those talks with the 23-year-old next week, discussing where his future lies. These conversations will take place at a time where David de Gea is coming under increasing pressure…
Apparently, the United star Henderson is ‘ready to return’ after two seasons on loan with Sheffield United. However, he’ll only come back to Old Trafford if he’s ‘assured’ he’ll be the first-choice goalkeeper.
Understandably, Henderson has no intention of playing back-up to De Gea, with the Spaniard making more errors this season than I’ve ever known.
These talks will take place after Henderson plays his final game of the season for Sheffield United this coming weekend. They’ll also be new contract talks, as the 20-time Premier League champions will look to give the Englishman an improvement on his current £35,000-a-week wages.
The Daily Mail add that Sheffield United want Henderson back, obviously. However, at this time, Henderson’s future lies solely in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s hands. Does he stick with his number one? Or make the change this summer?
What’s interesting is that the article also reckons United may struggle to move on from De Gea, who currently fetches home around £375,000-a-week. In this current market, teams aren’t going to want to pay that much in terms of wages, particularly when they look at his poor form.
At this stage, I’m firmly in the camp to make the switch and give Henderson his chance. I’m not alone in that regard, and I know it’s a massive gamble. However, Henderson can’t do any worse than De Gea is right now. It’s at least a couple of big mistakes a month and simply put, that’s not good enough.
