Man United to hold talks with Erling Haaland’s agent today: report

Man United are said to be holding talks with Erling Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, today.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s close relationship with Erling Haaland sadly wasn’t enough to convince the Norwegian to make an Old Trafford switch in January of 2020. However, Manchester United are set to get a second bite at the cherry.

As we all know, Haaland has only improved since his move to Borussia Dortmund. This season, he has an incredible 33 goals in 31 games, which has led to Europe’s elite taking note.

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, translated by talkSPORT, United are to hold talks with the representatives of the prolific 20-year-old today. The meeting will take place in London where United officials will sit down with Haaland’s father, Alfe-Inge, and his agent, Mino Raiola…

As you’d imagine, United will face competition. Apparently, Raiola and Haaland Snr will also meet with Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool. This comes less than 24-hours after the pair met with both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

It goes without saying, the eventual buying club will have to blow Haaland away. Trophies will almost certainly have to be on offer, which is where United may well fall short. Sure, a Europa League title this summer would do Solskjaer’s chances at landing the forward the world of good – but I’m still not sure it’ll be enough.

The advantage United have is this; they can afford to pay more in terms of transfer fee and wages than practically anyone, particularly as Spain’s top two clubs are seriously struggling financially at the moment.

It could well be the Red Devils’ time to attack. As we all know, Haaland has a £68m release clause which activates next summer, when every man and his dog will be looking to make a bid. Why not test the waters, bid over the clause value and see if we can get a deal done this summer? Sure, he’d cost more than expected but you’re getting arguably the best striker in the world…
