Man United to make January enquiry over Erling Haaland: report

It’s now well documented that Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a mistake over the summer. The Red Devils chose to let go of both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez without replacing, leaving the club somewhat light up top.

Anyway, the great thing about the beautiful game is that you always get the opportunity to rectify those mistakes – and for United, we’re now less than a couple of months away from the winter window.

Although buying in that transfer window is notoriously hard, apparently, it’s not going to stop the Reds from trying. The story comes from ESPN, who state that United are ready to make a formal approach for the prolific 19-year-old striker, Erling Braut Haaland.

Furthermore, United want a January move as they’re set to enquire about his availability in the mid-season transfer window.

Understandably, the Old Trafford club want the business done as soon as possible, as they fear that competition will be even fiercer come next summer, which could see them leapfrogged in the queue by FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus.

The problem could be the cost. RB Salzburg rate their 27-goal star at around £85million, with United also willing to loan Haaland back to the Austrian champions as a sort of deal-sweetener.

Where United do have an advantage is that Solskjaer has worked with Haaland previously at Molde. Actually, the Red Devils boss earmarked the talented teenager for potential transfer over a year ago, but I guess nobody expected this meteoric rise from the young man…
