Since Sir Alex Ferguson left Manchester United, this club has been in a downward spiral.

Three managers have tried and failed, enter Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Baby Faced Assassin has enjoyed early success, but this squad certainly needs overhauling.

Before what is a huge summer transfer window for the Red Devils, ESPN are reporting that United are making a key change in their transfer plans. Rather than going for experienced, older players like Alexis Sanchez, the club are focusing on emerging youngsters instead.

The article adds that only in ‘exceptional circumstances’ will United make their move for the ready-made players; and you can understand that decision given what has happened recently, particularly with Sanchez.

I’ve always said that United shouldn’t get away from what they do best; nurturing and harnessing young talents and developing them into world-class players.

When you look at the immense teenagers on the books, coupled with a few wise-old heads, that always feels like the way to go.

When signing players, it makes sense to go for youngsters, say, for instance, Jadon Sancho. Even if it doesn’t work out for him at United, at least the club can get some sort of transfer fee back for him due to his age. Then obviously, there is always the possibility that the younger player comes in and succeeds.
