Man United are set to offer skipper Harry Maguire a huge pay rise.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United squad is slowly starting to take shape. Some massive signings were made over the summer, though it’s also about keeping the players who were already at the club happy.
Amongst that group is Harry Maguire. The Englishman, over the last twelve months, has emerged as a hugely important figure for the 20-time Premier League champions.
Now, they’re ensuring his stature within that dressing room is rewarded. According to The Sun, United have told the key 28-year-old they want to offer him a new contract – which will include a bumper pay rise.
Maguire currently takes home around £189k-a-week, though after rising to prominence and becoming a pivotal figure, United want to tie the ex-Leicester City man down for the next five years.
A new deal, worth a reported £300k-a-week is in the pipeline, with United hoping that will ensure Maguire commits the rest of his top-level career to the Old Trafford club.
It goes without saying, Maguire has brought consistency to our backline. The partnership he’s building with Raphael Varane has massive potential. However, he’s our club captain. The Englishman offers more than just top quality play on the field. He’s a leader. Our on-field general and that importance cannot be understated.
The sooner his long-term future is secure, the better it is for all involved. United are obviously pleased with the work he’s doing and it definitely makes sense to try and get this contract extension agreed upon sooner rather than later.
I personally don’t suspect it’ll be a problem as Maguire can see what United are building as well as anyone. Why wouldn’t he want to be a part of that?
