Man United to scout Barnsley striker Daryl Dike tonight: report

Man United are to keep a close eye on Barnsley striker Daryl Dike this evening.

Just a few days ago, we covered a story that claimed that Manchester United were amongst the teams interested in signing Barnsley loanee, Daryl Dike.

The 20-year-old striker is currently on loan with The Tykes, though he’s owned by MLS outfit, Orlando City.

Well, our friends over at Stretty News have another update in the brewing Dike saga. They claim that United are going to scout the 20-year-old forward tonight, as Barnsley take on Reading in the Championship.

Barnsley currently sit fifth in the table on the back of Dike’s 5 goals in 11 games since he arrived in England, though United aren’t the only ones keen – with many eyes set to be watching on this evening.

Dike’s current loan deal with Barnsley ends this summer, though the Championship club does have an option to buy. You’d imagine they’d have no issue activating that clause if they secure Premier League promotion.

However, with interest in Dike thought to be high, don’t be surprised to see Barnsley sign Dike for the pre-agreed fee, before immediately selling him on for some pretty hefty profit.

As for where Dike would fit in at United, I’m not sure. The Old Trafford club need a ready-made goal-scorer as opposed to someone who they’ll have to be patient with. I’m not sure Dike is the right player at this current juncture, though that’s not to take away from his immense ability.

No doubt I, like many other United fans, will be tuning in tonight when Barnsley take on Reading at 5:30.

Would a Man United move for Dike be in keeping with how the Reds operate? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
