Until this summer, adding a world-class centre-back has undoubtedly been Manchester United’s priority over the last few seasons.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would eventually sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City in a big-money deal. However, it seems as though the Baby Faced Assassin is after even more defensive solidity.
Italian journalist Fabio Santini, speaking on the TV show Il Processo, (translated via Sport Witness) is linking United with a move for Napoli and Senegal defender, Kalidou Koulibaly.
Apparently, United are set to sign the top-class 28-year-old in the summer, in a deal worth £60-64m (€70-75m)…
AS SW says, finding the video for this was nigh-on impossible due to Il Processo’s website being down, however, multiple Naples-based sources have jumped on the story and unearthed the below quote:
“Napoli will sell Kalidou Koulibaly to Manchester United for a figure of around €70-75m. It seems all done. Naturally, such a deal will be closed only in June and certainly not in January in the winter transfer window.” Relayed by Area Napoli.
Koulibaly is obviously an unbelievable defender who’d be the perfect complement for the aforementioned Maguire, though with the back line looking far more assured this term, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Solskjaer prioritise other positions. That said, this is obviously a bold claim from Santini…
Honestly, I’d still take this with a pinch of salt. It feels like Koulibaly has been linked with a move away from Napoli every summer for the last few years with nothing ever coming to fruition. Maybe this time around it finally happens..?
