Man United to step up £130m double pursuit of Maddison & Chilwell: report

Manchester United need heavy investment to turn this squad into a real force once again.

For all his faults, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown astuteness in the transfer market. The Baby Faced Assassin made three signings over the summer – all of whom have made a positive impact thus far.

However, his work is far from over and now it seems as though he’s identified his next two targets.

According to The Sun in an exclusive, United are ready to step up their £130million double pursuit of Premier League star duo, James Maddison and Ben Chilwell.

The pair currently ply their trade for Leicester City, with Solskjaer understood to be impressed with the pair during The Foxes’ 1-0 loss to United last month.

Again, the Norwegian’s strategy is clear; sign young, preferably British talent and build this squad from the ground up.

Maddison’s creativity has been well-documented since his move to Leicester in the summer of 2018 – and there’s no doubt he’d drastically improve this squad as soon as he’d walk through the door.

As for Chilwell, he’s another top-class performer. Luke Shaw’s injury struggles are taking their toll on his overall output and don’t be surprised to see Solskjaer try and replace the Southampton academy graduate over the next couple of transfer windows.

The real concern is are Leicester really going to sell two more of their prized assets to United, particularly over such a short period of time?

After nabbing Harry Maguire for £80million, you could understand why The Foxes would be reluctant. One thing is for certain, United won’t be getting these guys on the cheap should the deal(s) go through…
