Manchester United, and others, have been given a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho.
As we all know, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United Football Club are huge admirers of Jadon Sancho’s. The Englishman was undoubtedly the Red Devils’ top target last summer. However, the coronavirus scuppered those plans.
This time, COVID-19 may well work in their favour. That’s what Bild, translated by Sport Witness, state anyway. Apparently, United, and other potential suitors, are set to be given a ‘corona discount’ if they want to sign Sancho this summer.
The asking price has been reduced from €120m (£104m) to €100m (£86m). Obviously, this is not as dramatic as a discount United would have liked, but it does offer the Red Devils hope in pursuit of the classy 21-year-old.
Bild state that United ‘are warned’ about this transfer, given there’s also interest from Liverpool and Chelsea this summer. This feels like their moment. The Reds have to go all-out and try to get this deal done early. Pay BVB’s asking price, no messing about – and go get a player who can fill your right-wing void as soon as Sancho walks through the Old Trafford entrance doors.
It’s also worth noting that Bild also writes about Erling Haaland. They believe there’s a low chance the Norwegian leaves the Westfalonstadion this summer, which does let us know Sancho’s head could well be on the chopping block.
There’s no doubt about it, Sancho would add so much quality to this playing squad. Signing the Englishman would move the Old Trafford club one step closer towards making it #21 next season.
I do wonder if the sort of money available will be splurged on one player, though. We have to realise that this Glazer ownership doesn’t like spending big, while it’s easy to forget we haven’t had fans in the stadium for well over a year now. Their pockets will still be feeling the aftereffects of that whether we like them or not…
