Man United have been told they should’ve made a move to sign Danny Ings.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United are slowly but surely taking shape. Credit where it’s due, the Baby Faced Assassin is doing an excellent job.
Over the summer, one area where you feel like United could have invested is up top. Harry Kane and Erling Haaland were obviously linked, as was Danny Ings.
The Englishman actually wanted a move to either United or City, though both Manchester clubs passed up on that potential switch. Now, Ings is playing for Aston Villa – and looking super bright in the process.
After a poor performance from Anthony Martial over the weekend, I guess these comments below felt like an inevitability. United have been told they’ve ‘missed a trick’ by not making a move for the prolific Ings, who ended up costing £30million.
Check out what Crook had to say here:
“I would flip that around and say have Manchester United missed a trick when it comes to Danny Ings? 30m pounds, someone who has scored goals in the Premier League, scored a wonderful goal for Aston Villa last night,” he said on talkSPORT.
“Are you telling me that Danny Ings isn’t an upgrade on Antony Martial? And he wanted to go to Manchester City or Manchester United, that was his preferred destination.
“Yes I know he’s had injury problems, he’s probably coming into the twilight of his career but you don’t get a lot for £30m these days and that would have been an easy deal to be done.
“I just wonder if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s blind faith in Antony Martial could be his undoing this season.”
I like Ings and that goal he scored at the weekend was special. There is absolutely no denying that. However, I feel we’re slightly becoming a bit prisoner of the moment here.
Ings is good, he will score goals, though we’re ignoring his awful track record when it comes to injuries. The Englishman is also a few years older than Martial, meaning he wouldn’t provide the longevity that the Frenchman can.
Am I completely sold by Martial? In fact, I’m far from it. I’m just not sure Ings is a guy who is going to fire you to a league title. Look at how much he struggled during his time at Liverpool – and there’s no guarantee united could offer Ings regular starts anyway.
Sure, hindsight is a wonderful thing, but this feels a little reactionary to me…
