Man United told they’ll have to pay ‘unthinkable’ price for Saul Niguez signing: report

Back on April 19th, we covered a story from AS, in which it was claimed that Saul Niguez is ‘wanted’ by Manchester United.

Well, today, we’ve been offered another update, albeit a negative one for those amongst you who want this deal to happen…

The article comes from Marca (Tuesday print) translated via Sport Witness. In the story, it is stated that United will have to pay Saul’s €150m (£135m) release clause if they want to sign the Spaniard this summer.

Apparently, that fee is non-negotiable and any thought of a bargain deal has been completely ruled out by the Spanish side, who’re looking for an astronomical fee despite previous suggestions the COVID-19 outbreak could affect things.

United have been told the 25-year-old star will cost an ‘unthinkable’ price in the current market, so I guess now it comes down to just how highly United value Saul Niguez.

Make no mistake about it, this man can play. However, would United be prepared to smash their transfer record by about £40million to bring in Saul? I’d highly doubt it.

Why do I say this? Well, United’s supposed interest in covered by Marca, though no official bid has been made. I’d imagine that any idea of a lower off being placed in has now been completely taken off the table. Atletico Madrid seemingly aren’t in a negotiating mood as they look to keep ahold of a key star.
