Manchester United could be about to be offered the opportunity to sign Mesut Ozil in January; for just £20million.
That’s what Italian media outlet Calciomeracto believe, translated via Sky Sports in their European paper talk column.
Apparently, if the German doesn’t put pen to paper on a new deal before January, United, who were linked with a move to sign Ozil, alongside Inter Milan, will be offered a deal to acquire the playmaker – so Arsenal doesn’t lose him for free.
Signing a player of Ozil’s quality in the middle of a season could be huge. Of course, there is an awful lot of football to be played before then and a lot can change.
Jose Mourinho has worked with the 29-year-old before, and the influence he could have on the Red Devils’ attack as a whole would be massive. Ozil playing in a four, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan to his right, Marcus Rashford to his left and Romelu Lukaku just in front of him sounds like a mouthwatering prospect on paper.
You’d imagine that Arsenal would be more willing to sell him abroad though, because, at Old Trafford, he could come back to haunt Arsene Wenger before the end of the season…
