Man United interest in Kalidou Koulibaly has been longstanding. Now may well be the perfect time to strike…
First and foremost, Manchester United need to sign a new centre-half this summer. Simply put, the current crop are just far too inconsistent, costing the Red Devils points aplenty in the title race.
Yesterday, we covered a claim from FC Inter News, stating interest in Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar.
Today, another familiar face has been thrown back into the mix; Kalidou Koulibaly. United’s long-term interest in the Senegal centre-half has been there for all to see. We’ve genuinely been covering this rumour for years. This time, though, things feel different…
The story comes from Il Mattino, translated by Sport Witness. The story itself actually focuses on Bayern Munich interest in Koulibaly, who are interested in the 29-year-old despite already agreeing a deal to bring Dayot Upamecano to their club.
Apparently, Napoli’s financial struggles means they have to make a ‘clean cut’ in salaries, suggesting Koulibaly could be available in a cut-price deal.
The story states that Munich’s £39m (€45m) offer ‘could also be considered’, which is by far the cheapest price we’ve ever seen in regards to Koulibaly.
It’s claimed the offer by Munich hasn’t been made yet, but the Bavarian club ‘want to anticipate’ clubs like United and Liverpool making a move for Koulibaly – so they’re trying to get a head start.
United’s interest in Koulibaly is obviously still there, then, though beating out competition from Liverpool and Munich isn’t going to be easy. First and foremost, you’d imagine Champions League football is the bare minimum requirement to even have a shot at signing the Napoli man.
It goes without saying Koulibaly would greatly improve this football team. Call me a cynic, I still have my doubts as this rumour has come and gone many-a-time before…
