Man United apparently tried to hijack a deal to sign Amadou Onana from Everton.

Manchester United Football Club need to sign a midfielder this summer, now that deals for Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee are all agreed.

It’s the next position in line for some reinforcement and several names have been linked with the void. Right now, it appears that Manuel Ugarte is the frontrunner, as the Red Devils eye a move to bring in the Uruguay international.

However, other names are under consideration, including Everton’s Amadou Onana. Sadly, United may have left it too late to sign the Belgian.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri provided the latest news on that front via his X account earlier today. He claimed that United tried a ‘last minute hijack’ to sign the Everton man, as he prepares to seal a move to Aston Villa.

According to his information, United were ready to match Aston Villa’s offer to sign the young midfielder, with the Birmingham club agreeing a deal worth £50m to sign Onana.

However, Onana has already given his word to Villa, meaning he will not be joining United.

It appears United have left it a little too late to get this deal done. Perhaps the timing just didn’t sync up for the Old Trafford club, who have been pushing hard to get the Leny Yoro deal over the line first.

Although I have been campaigning for United to sign Onana for a year or so now, you have to say fair play to the man who is not going back on his word.

The price is a great one for Villa, who are getting a top class defensive midfielder on the books for next season.

You’d now imagine United will push even harder to sign Manuel Ugarte from PSG.
