Man United have extended the contracts of four players by a further year, triggering clauses in their deals.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have a specific way of playing. The Old Trafford club are certainly moving in a fresh direction.
Slowly but surely, this squad will be full of players Ten Hag is truly content with. He’ll be looking to keep certain players around to lay the foundations – with that process now well and truly underway.
As the club continues to evolve, they’ve made some big moves today. According to The Athletic, United have extended the contracts of four players, triggering one-year clauses within their current deal.
Those players are Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw and Fred.
No doubt in the long-term, the club is looking to tie these players down to permanent contracts – though that’s easier said than done given we’ve just had a World Cup.
It’s already been reported that the club are in talks with Dalot, who has absolutely turned into a high-level right-back over the course of this season. No doubt he’s amongst the club’s priorities right now.
Rashford is another asset the Old Trafford side would dearly love to protect. The Englishman would be a steal for any side on a free transfer. It just depends where his heart and head is at right now. Hopefully, he wants to stay.
Shaw, like Dalot, is a first-choice full-back for the club after overcoming serious injury issues. He’s still improving year-on-year, while the healthy competition he has with Tyrell Malacia for minutes can only be a good thing for them both.
Then you have Fred. He divides opinion amongst supporters, though as a rotational option, there are certainly worse players to have in and around the squad. I’m not sure a new long-term contract is a must for the Brazilian, but United are well within their rights to protect their asset. After all, he did cost in excess of £50million.
