Man United trigger one-year extension in Dylan Levitt contract

Man United have taken up the one-year contract extension in Dylan Levitt’s contract.

The midfield area needs major work over the summer at Manchester United.

Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic will leave, with every other midfielder at the club struggling at some stages of the 2021/22 season. Erik ten Hag may well have identified that position as the biggest weakness going into the new year.

Frenkie de Jong’s name has consistently been linked with an Old Trafford switch, but there’s also a thought the club could promote from within. James Garner and Dylan Levitt both enjoyed impressive loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Dundee United respectively.

Garner will be looked at during pre-season tour, though Levitt’s future still remains up in the air.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, United have triggered the one-year extension in the young midfielder’s contract following his impressive spell North of the border.

Levitt, who actually started a Europa League game against Astana a few years ago, is now tied down at United until 2023.

However, United are yet to make a decision on Levitt’s future. The club could still part with the Wales international on a permanent transfer or even another loan this season.

Personally, I’ve seen enough from Levitt to suggest that he could deserve another multi-year deal here, with a view to a short-term move away at a higher level in 2022/23.

What I love about Levitt is the work ethic. This young man has already devised a summer fitness plan which he’ll work through, knowing he still has to improve in order to earn first-team football at United or elsewhere.

After a 29-appearance, six goal season with Dundee United, during which Levitt was mightily impressive, you have to feel he deserves that chance at the next level.

I’d like to see Levitt also get a chance on pre-season tour before any decision is made on his future.
