Manchester United have been struggling both on and of the field recently, with Jose Mourinho’s men not giving the fans the results that they so desperately crave.

However today, there has been some good news off the field, as according to The Independent, Anthony Martial will remain a Red Devil for a further year, after the club have extended his contract due to a clause within his current deal.

The report also adds that United and Martial will continue talks over a new five-year, long-term deal, which is the one that obviously everyone really wants to see the Frenchman signing.

United have already triggered a similar sort of deal with David de Gea, and now, the task for Edward Woodward is to get these guys to commit to this club over the foreseeable future.

Let’s not beat around the bush. Martial has been our best attacking player this season and we certainly need him. His goalscoring output is unmatched at United, and we’ve definitely missed him over the last couple of weeks as he has been missing with injury.

The question is, why would he sign? He’s in and out of the team, playing for a dull, defensive-minded manager and he doesn’t look completely happy. My guess is that things would have to change if Martial is going to agree to stay.
