Man United trying to convince Omari Forson to stay as he contract winds down

Man United are trying to persuade Omari Forson to stay at the club, as his current contract winds down.

Under Erik ten Hag, the next generation must prove that they’re good enough for the opportunity, rather than being handed chances on a plate.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have forced their way into the first-team, with several others trying to follow suit.

Among those in that next group is Omari Forson. The young man looked super sharp on pre-season tour, though we’ve seldom seen him out on the field earning meaningful minutes.

According to the Daily Mail, United could have a fight on their hands to keep ahold of Forson, as United are trying to convince the 19-year-old to stay at the club, with the winger yet to commit to a new contract. As a result, Facundo Pellistri’s loan move is on hold as Ten Hag doesn’t want to be left short in that area of the field.

Forson did make his senior debut against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps that was Ten Hag’s way of trying to move along the process of a new contract for the teenager.

Described as ‘exceptional’ by Academy Director Nick Cox, Forson’s current terms expire this summer, with no new deal close to being agreed.

If Forson does not commit to a new deal, United may have to consider what role he will play between now and the end of the season. Understandably, the club wouldn’t be keen on giving him minutes, only for the player to depart on a free transfer this summer.

Let’s hope Forson does commit his future to United soon, allowing Pellistri to head out on loan in the process.
