Man United trying to convince Ousmane Dembele to join: report

Man United are trying to convince Ousmane Dembele to make the move to Old Trafford this summer.

The 20-time Premier League champions better act quickly, mind, with Monday’s transfer deadline now looming large.

After acquiring Donny van de Beek, all has gone pretty quiet on the transfer front for the Old Trafford club. It looked for all the world like the Red Devils would sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. However, as time goes on, that deal looks completely dead in the water.

It seems as though United have turned to FC Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele as a potential alternative to Sancho.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has the latest update for us in that regard. Apparently, United are trying to convince the 23-year-old to join the club. That’s after Dembele has said no to both Liverpool and Juventus on a loan and permanent deal respectively…

Check out Fabrizio Romano’s tweet here:

As Romano adds, United want a loan deal straight up, or a loan deal with an option to buy, while the Catalan club are trying to move away from Dembele permanently.

With his injury history, it makes sense that United don’t want to acquire him for good at this juncture. Make him prove himself first, then bring him in on a long-term if it all works out.

I certainly get the impression this story has some truth to it, though. Just yesterday, we covered a story from Sky Sports News, who stated that United were interested in Dembele.

For what it’s worth, he’d be a decent addition to the squad if he can stay fit. That’s a big if, mind.

Simply put, United need to bring in a winger of some description before Monday. This squad isn’t good enough, nor close to being deep enough, to challenge for major honours without bringing someone in during this window.

Is Dembele a risk? Absolutely, but it’s one we have no choice but to take, assuming the Sancho deal is completely dead, that is.
