Man United are doing all they can to get to the front of the Victor Osimhen queue.
Manchester United Football Club are desperate to sign a new frontman when the summer transfer window rolls around. That much is obvious.
Cristiano Ronaldo left. Anthony Martial cannot stay fit. Wout Weghorst is nothing but a short-term fix.
Harry Kane has been linked. As has Victor Osimhen. Either way, it’s going to take a large chunk of money for United to find their new goalscoring hero.
In regards to the Napoli man, Il Mattino, translated by Sport Witness, offers the latest on that front. Apparently, United are trying to get in ‘pole position’ for the signing of the 24-year-old.
Osimhen has helped Napoli to the top of the Serie A table this season, with the Naples side having a healthy lead, too. United (and no doubt others) are taking notice of what the striker is doing.
A January deal to sign Osimhen was never going to happen due to their title fight, though you always felt like this would be a move to keep an eye on heading towards the summer.
The problem? Napoli want £130m+ (€150m) to let their star striker leave. Obviously, that’s an awful lot of money. However, Napoli have no obligation to sell and they’ve always been tough negotiators in the transfer market.
I maintain my stance that there’s no striker out there better suited to United than Osimhen. He’s the perfect player for Erik ten Hag, though it remains to be seen whether United would spend so big on one individual.
There’s also the small factor that the Glazer family are still trying to sell the club. I’d guess that sale would have to happen before any big transfers are sanctioned.
