Man United unhappy with David de Gea’s recent performances, considering replacements: report

Manchester United Football Club, despite all their failings over the last five years or so, have been pretty good when it comes to choosing their goalkeepers.

David de Gea has been widely regarded as being amongst the best in the business recently. However, performance levels have indeed dropped with errors beginning to keep into the Spaniard’s game once again.

That has seemingly led to United considering De Gea’s position as number one, with the Transfer Window Podcast, transcribed by the Daily Mirror, claiming that United are ‘unhappy’ with the recent performances of their star 29-year-old. So-much-so that they’re considering replacements…

This comes the summer following what felt like two years of persuading to get De Gea to sign a four-year, £375,000-a-week deal.

Perhaps the shot-stopper has now began to rest on his laurels, after all, this contract will net him bucket-loads of cash and he no longer has to worry about life after football…

Obviously, De Gea’s downturn in form coincides with Dean Henderson’s rise to prominence. The 23-year-old has been brilliant for the last few years, most recently impressing on loan with Sheffield United in the Premier League.

In Henderson, I believe United would have a ready-made replacement and they shouldn’t really look any further. If they’re set on selling De Gea, a player who they’d make a pretty decent profit on, they can re-invest that money in the playing squad and hand Henderson the #1 jersey this summer. It really does feel like a pretty straightforward decision…
