Manchester United’s 2018/19 season was difficult. This squad, this team, is miles away from competing for major honours. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going to need time to reintroduce the Red Devils’ footballing heritage.
This club has always been renowned for giving youth an opportunity. Under Jose Mourinho, United move away from that mantra and ideology. Looking at the names the Reds have been linked with during this transfer window, it feels as though Solskjaer is trying to take things back to basics.
Perhaps United already have a star-in-the-making right under their noses. Loanees are often forgotten about, but it has worked wonders for Axel Tuanzebe this term.
The 21-year-old has been absolutely brilliant for Aston Villa during the Championship play-offs, which eventually led to the Villans being promoted – with Tuanzebe capping off his season with a display of real maturity against Derby County.
It’s easy to forget that Tuanzebe was once captain of United’s U18 side – becoming the youngest Red to wear the armband at that age category. Those leadership qualities is something that the first-team has been majorly lacking in recently. Perhaps now is the time to slowly introduce the centre-half into the fold…
United fans on social media certainly seem to think that’s the way to go and heck, you can hardly blame them after watching Phil Jones for the last few years. I already feel Tuanzebe is better than the Reds’ current #4, and it’s a view echoed by many United fans on social media.
