Rio Ferdinand backs Man United to make Jack Grealish transfer move

Manchester United have been backed to make a Jack Grealish transfer move by none other than Rio Ferdinand.

Jack Grealish this, Jack Grealish that. It feels like we’ve been covering the Englishman’s every move over the last six months. No doubt the talk has heightened surrounding the Aston Villa star due to some mightily impressive performances this term.

Let’s be honest, Grealish has been amongst the best players in the country. He’s a classy finisher, a quality crosser and a purposeful runner. The Villa #10 has all the attributes you’d want in any attacking-midfielder. He’s someone who’d fit into any side in the world and not look out of place.

United’s interest goes back to the summer but in the end, they’d be put off by Villa’s understandably-high asking price. Now, though, they’ve been urged to make another move for the world-class attacker by Reds legend, Rio Ferdinand.

Check out what Ferdinand had to say about Grealish here:

“I don’t care if Pogba goes or not, Grealish is my man,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel, FIVE.

“I’ve known this guy since he was in his early teens. He came to my restaurant in Manchester actually to watch a game and I got him some tickets. Great kid, great family. Loves his football. What you don’t see is the hard work behind closed doors, the attention to detail, the way he trains and changed his regime.

“He’s looked at himself and what can I do better? I’ve heard from a lot of people that’s he’s diligent with everything he does off the pitch to where he’s now. We’re seeing results week in, week out now.

“The numbers tell you he’s starting to think about things. I think he’s looked at himself in the summer and thought, I did well last season, I’ve signed a new deal at the club I love, and now I’m going to go again. There’s been a huge improvement in the numbers.

“Good players will find a way, they will work it out. Can you imagine if you had McTominay holding and Pogba alongside Grealish and Fernandes. Imagine that man! I’m licking my lips right now.

“Listen, he’s an Aston Villa player. If I’m a manager of a top, top team in England, I don’t allow him to stay there anymore, I take him!”

I definitely agree with what Ferdinand is saying. If Pogba goes, Grealish would be the ideal replacement. If Pogba stays, throwing Grealish into the mix with the Frenchman and Bruno Fernandes has me frothing at the mouth.

In the modern-day game, you need a deep squad. Grealish would definitely add further quality to proceedings at Old Trafford, while it’s mad to think he probably wouldn’t start game-in-game-out.

So would a Grealish move make sense?

The problem with the transfer remains the same, though. Grealish would cost an arm and a leg and we’re still in the middle of a pandemic. Would United really sanction a move that’d probably cost somewhere around the £100million mark, for a player who’d be classed as a luxury? I’d doubt it.

Plus, you still have to remember that there are other areas of this squad that need work. Right-wing, centre-half and even a right-back perhaps. They’re all more pressing needs at this juncture.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Grealish, but with Bruno Fernandes in the form that he’s in, it feels like we’d have another Donny van de Beek situation on our hands in the not too distant future if this move goes through.

Would it make sense for United to make a Grealish transfer bid? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
