Man United ‘very attentive’ to Saul Niguez’s situation: report

Man United are once again being linked with a move to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder, Saul Niguez.

Not a summer goes by where the Red Devils aren’t linked with interest in Saul Niguez. I suspect that’ll always be the case until the Spaniard eventually moves on from Atletico Madrid.

Today’s update in the saga comes from AS (Monday print edition), with the translation coming from Sport Witness. The Spanish media outlet go pretty big.

They state that the reported 26-year-old United target ‘wants to leave’ his current club, while the Reds are ‘very attentive’ to Saul’s situation in the Spanish capital. There is also interest from both Manchester City and Liverpool.

Right now, AS place Saul’s market value at €40m, which is an absolute steal for a player of his calibre. Obviously, Atleti are hoping for significantly more than that – and perhaps a bidding war between three of England’s top clubs is exactly what they’re after.

It seems as though right now, United’s main job is to finalise a deal for Jadon Sancho, before looking at other targets in both midfield and defence. Saul would be an upgrade on our current options, though he’s better in the final third, whereas right now, Solskjaer needs help in that defensive midfield role.

Again, I’d be wary of Saul’s agent talking up an exit from Atleti in order to secure his client a new contract. Either that, or there’s a very real possibility it’s just paper talk as the United name immediately makes headlines.

As of right now, I’d take this story with a pinch of salt. If these claims start being backed up by more Spanish media outlets on a regular basis, then we’ll start to believe them…
