Man United are seemingly ready to cash in on Andreas Pereira – but only if the price is right.
After agreeing deals to sign both Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be feeling pretty good about the shape of his squad.
Before further signings are made, it’s expected that funds will have to be generated through sales. One of the names whose head is on the chopping block is Andreas Pereira.
The Brazilian spent last season out on loan with Lazio, though he has been a heavy participant in United’s pre-season. That said, even his world-class goal against Brentford won’t be changing the mind of Reds fans anytime soon…
United are apparently ready to cash in on the midfielder, though only at the right price. It’s thought they want £20m to sell the 25-year-old this summer, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.
What’s also worth noting is United have no plans to sanction another loan deal for Pereira, with Solskjaer’s side rejecting a short-term offer from Lazio – who clearly want the midfielder back in the Serie A next term.
It’s actually refreshing to see United play hardball for a change, standing firm and not giving in to demands.
Pereira is a decent player, nothing more than that, but he should command an average transfer fee. £15-20m feels like the right ball park and if Lazio aren’t willing to pay that, then they won’t get him, it’s as simple as that.
At this stage in his career, a move away from Old Trafford on a permanent basis seems in Pereira’s best interests. Sadly, he hasn’t kicked on as much as we’d all have liked and he needs to be playing regularly now.
He was alright for Lazio last season, showing he can do it at that sort of level. I’m sure they’ll be plenty other interested parties coming forward before the transfer window ends.
