Man United are keen on signing Frenkie de Jong.
This summer is going to be huge. I don’t believe we’ve ever seen squad turnover like we’re going to witness over the next few months.
A new manager will be in place while there is plenty of deadwood that needs to be moved on. Factor in the addition of some young players being promoted and big-money being spent, this side will have a completely fresh look in 2022/23.
We’re already being linked with pretty much every name under the sun. I guess that was always to be expected, as the United brand sells headlines.
Over the last 24 hours, a new face has been linked with an Old Trafford switch; Frenkie de Jong.
The story comes from El Chiringuito TV, with Jose Alvarez Haya with the exclusive. He makes a huge claim.
Apparently, United ‘want’ to sign the 26-year-old midfielder De Jong, who currently plies his trade for FC Barcelona.
What I find interesting is that Alvarez Haya claims that Barca would actually be ‘happy’ to sell the Dutchman if their £58m (€70m) valuation is met…
While I firmly believe De Jong would be a huge upgrade for our midfield, I do worry why Barca would be willing to part with the Dutchman.
United need the calibre of footballer who can compete at the highest level week-in-week-out. There must be a reason why Barcelona would listen to offers for the former Ajax man.
What I do like is the fact that Ten Hag has worked with De Jong already. It makes sense for our new manager to surround himself with players he feels familiar with.
De Jong is someone who could slot straight into Ten Hag’s system and immediately play at a high level.
