Names aplenty have been linked with a Manchester United switch this season. Well, you can add another player to that list – and this time, it’s a familiar one.
According to The Sun in an exclusive, Manchester United want to ‘hijack’ FC Barcelona’s proposed move to sign Antoine Griezmann this summer, with the 20-time Premier League champions ‘ready’ to make a last-gasp bid to acquire the world-class 28-year-old.
Apparently, United are ready to ‘smash’ their transfer record to acquire the Frenchman in a deal worth around £95million, with the Reds being given hope in the chase as Griezmann admitted he may move away from Spain this summer…
The Reds are more than willing to pay his transfer fee and meet Griezmann’s £450,000-a-week wages as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to overhaul his playing squad.
Honestly, I have my doubts about this one, similarly to how I was concerned when United were linked with a potential move for Gareth Bale…
It’s fair to say that marquee signings haven’t quite worked out for United over the last few seasons so it makes sense to get away from that strategy. Personally, I like it when the Reds sign young players and develop their games slowly but surely. There’s far less bust potential and far less pressure, whereas if Griezmann comes and doesn’t perform, he’d be considered flop almost immediately.
With a dressing room that looks split right now I’m just not sure adding another big personality is a wise move. We’ll just have to see how this one plays out, but I still reckon he’s on his way to Catalonia…
