Man United have identified Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, as a successor to David de Gea.
Manchester United Football Club have been indebted to David de Gea for the better part of a decade. The superstar Spaniard has been a consistent performer in a genuine time of struggle for the Red Devils.
However, Erik ten Hag’s style of play requires a different type of goalkeeper. It’s clear the Dutchman is looking to move in a different direction and now may be the perfect time.
De Gea’s contract expires in 2024. There’s been no sign of new terms being agreed to anytime soon. He will have to be sold next summer, or United risk losing him for free.
Well a report from Jeunes Footeux seems to believe the Reds are ready to go in a different direction…
According to their claim, Man United have a serious interest in Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.
So what do we know?
Well, Jeunes Footeux state in their headline that the player is now a ‘priority’ for the Reds.
As yo delve deeper into the article, they outline De Gea’s expiring contract and suggest that United ‘want to secure the services’ of the 29-year-old to replace the Spaniard.
De Gea has ‘not really convinced’ Ten Hag, with the club ‘looking for’ a goalkeeper of ‘international calibre’ to replace the 31-year-old, who has recently fallen out of favour with Spain, too.
Oblak’s contract expires in 2023, meaning United could look to strike while the iron is hot. This feels like an opportune moment to move for the Slovenian, who is absolutely viewed as one of the best in the world in his position.
