Man United are once again being linked with a move to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder, Marcos Llorente.
Back in January, we covered claims which suggested Manchester United may move for Llorente on a January loan deal. Obviously, that didn’t happen but interest in the Spaniard seemingly remains.
The latest claim comes from AS, which the article translated by Sport Witness. They go big, suggesting that United ‘want to sign’ the 26-year-old attacking midfielder.
AS go a step further, adding United have contacted Atletico Madrid, to make an offer worth £68m (€80m). Apparently, Diego Simeone had no plans to part with his star midfielder, though the ‘succulent proposal’ made by United has left Atleti chiefs with a real decision to make.
Obviously, every club is struggling with the global pandemic at this point in time, so adding somewhere around £64m to their coffers would help out drastically.
However, it seems like any move for Llorente would be difficult, with the player ‘very comfortable’ with Atleti right now. It’s claimed he does not ‘contemplate’ leaving the Spanish capital at this juncture.
Would Llorente be a good fit?
He’s versatile due to the fact he can play in a traditional midfield role or further up the field. However, I’m not sure if he’s the sort of player United are desperate for right now.
I’d much prefer the club to go after a more defensive-minded midfielder, or focus their attentions on adding a top-drawer right-winger or striker. If anything, the attacking midfield slot is the area that requires the least attention at this point.
That said, Llorente is a quality player who’d improve any side in the world.
