Man United want to sign Julian Alvarez ‘right now’: report

Man United have seemingly made their intentions clear in regards to moving for Julian Alvarez.

Ralf Rangnick will bring his own ideas and tactics to Manchester United. With that in mind, new signings will be required. After all, the Old Trafford club wants to head in a fresh direction – regardless of whether the Germain remains at the club beyond the summer.

This squad is as dislikable as I can remember. The attitude of several players of that dressing room just isn’t good enough and the sooner a major squad overhaul happens, the better it’ll be for the club on the whole.

One player the club have recently been linked with is Julian Alvarez. The emerging striker currently plies his trade for River Plate in Argentina.

Now, according to AS in his homeland, with the translation coming from Sport Witness, the Reds are ready to make their move to acquire Alvarez.

Apparently, United intend to sign the 21-year-old and ‘take him to Premier League right now’ (meaning January), while the Reds are named as the ‘main suitor’ to acquire the top talent.

The Argentine is already capped by his country five times, and he scored 22 goals across all competitions in the 2021 season. For one so young, playing for arguably the biggest team in South America, that’s mightily impressive.

Rangnick is a manager who loves to work with younger players and develop their talents. Alvarez definitely fits into that mould – though it would mean someone else would have to depart Old Trafford in January to make room for Alvarez in the squad.

My worry about this is that Rangnick may well no longer be manager come the summertime – so I’d approach any new signings cautiously. Whose to say that the new permanent hire believes in Alvarez just like Rangnick does?

The good news for United is that River Plate’s hand will shortly be forced. Alvarez’s current contract expires in December 2022 and it contains a £16.7m (€20m) release clause. In the modern-day game, that’s an absolute bargain.
