This transfer window is probably Manchester United’s most important in at least a half-decade.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a monumental task at-hand, it’ll take him at least a couple of years to sort this mess out.
Massive overhaul is needed and the Red Devils have to start somewhere, right? Well, according to Andy Mitten in his latest ESPN column, United have identified four (possibly five) positions that they’re looking at strengthening.
Apparently, the Baby Faced Assassin only wants to sign players with the right attitude, while Mitten says they want to sign a right-back, a central midfielder, a right-sided midfielder, a central defender and a forward – should Alexis Sanchez or Romelu Lukaku leave Old Trafford.
This just goes to show how deep-rooted the problems are at the moment. Players have to be signed, but there are still so many bang-average footballers within that dressing room that simply aren’t good enough to play for Manchester United.
I do like the positions that have been outlined, although we may well be looking for a new goalkeeper, too, should David de Gea leave the club during this window. With just one year left on his deal it’s entirely possible…
