Man United are biding their time, before making a decision on handing a new contract to Raphael Varane.
Under INEOS, Manchester United already feel like a club that are beginning to make smarter decisions.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is looking to curb the heavy spending, ensuring the Red Devils aren’t simply wasting money.
As a result, Raphael Varane is being made to wait in regard to his long-term future at the Theatre of Dreams.
The Manchester Evening News state United are delaying making a decision on the Frenchman’s current deal.
Apparently, the club ‘want to wait’ before deciding whether to hand a new contract to the 30-year-old. The decision is being delayed due to the fact that planned structural and personnel changes are taking place as INEOS confirm their 25% stake in the club.
Varane is out of contract this June, though the club are yet to decide whether to keep the Frenchman, who is on a big weekly wage, beyond his current terms.
The Frenchman has been a reliable asset when fit. However, his scattered injury record certainly leaves cause for concern. You also have to remember that there have been times when Ten Hag has preferred to opt for Jonny Evans instead, for better balance across the back four.
As things stand, I’d assume that Varane will be let go. United are consistently being linked with moves to bring in a new, younger centre-half, which is probably why they’re delaying making a decision on the ex-Real Madrid man. I guess he’s not the worst back-up plan to have in the event hat the club fail to secure one of their preferred targets, mind.
