Man United have added Brentford striker Ivan Toney to their list of possible transfer targets.
With plenty of talk surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United, it makes sense that the club are doing their due diligence in the transfer market and looking at possible options that are out there.
In an ideal world, Erik ten Hag will want to work with Ronaldo at Old Trafford this summer, though in a worst-case scenario, the club have to be prepared.
Well, Brentford forward Ivan Toney is now an option, The Mirror report.
Apparently, United are ‘keeping tabs’ on the player’s situation at Brentford, with United adding the 14-goal Premier League striker to their list of potential targets. Toney also added six assists for his teammates in 2021/22.
Toney is also attracting interest from Newcastle United, Leeds United and West Ham United.
It’s stated that whether or not United will take their interest further is based on what’ll happen in regards to both Ronaldo and Anthony Martial. However, the latter has been impressive during the opening two pre-season tour matches.
There’s nothing out there in the way of valuation on Toney’s head, though Brentford will have the opportunity to bump up the price as they’d be selling to a Premier League rival. There’s also a decent chance some sort of bidding war could happen, particularly if United get involved…
Toney’s hold-up play, finishing ability and all-round game was impressive during his debut season. However, making the jump up to Manchester United is no easy task. I’m not quite sure the Englishman is ready to fill Ronaldo’s shoes, though he could be a decent rotational option assuming the price is right.
As for Brentford, they must be getting sick of the sight of us. First Christian Eriksen, now potentially Toney…?
