Man United weighing up summer swoop for Eric Dier: report

The January transfer window only closed a couple of weeks ago, though work behind the scenes at Manchester United for the summer is already ramping up.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has actually done a brilliant job at culling the squad and bringing in adequate replacements. It’s a slow process, but United are definitely heading in the right direction in terms of personnel.

Yesterday, a familiar name was thrown back into the mix as a potential transfer target; Eric Dier.

According to a report from the Daily Star, United are ‘weighing up a summer swoop’ for the 26-year-old, who the Reds have been long-term admirers of.

Obviously, United’s attempts have been unsuccessful so far, though their bosses believe Dier could leave Spurs this coming summer as the London club are willing to listen to offers for the English midfielder.

The article also states that United are planning for life without Paul Pogba, who remains determined to leave Old Trafford when the transfer window opens.

What’s apparently attracting Solskjaer to Dier is his versatility. The Spurs man can operate in both midfield and defence, giving the United boss a multitude of options.

Dier, who is actually a boyhood United fan, is reluctant to sign a new Spurs deal amid concerns about his playing time since Jose Mourinho took charge.

For me, I’d be underwhelmed with this signing. There’s a reason Dier isn’t playing for Spurs right now. He may well be a good squad player, but as a regular starter at the biggest club in the country? I remain unconvinced…
