Man United are looking at the possibility of moving for Atletico Madrid winger, Yannick Carrasco.
Up to this point, it feels like Manchester United are penny-pinching in the transfer market. The refusal to spend big to bring in Erik ten Hag’s first-choice players has us off to a disappointing start this summer.
Pre-season is just a few days away from starting, with the first group of lads expected back in training on Monday.
Despite the fact United have been linked with what feels like every name under the sun, the lack of incoming transfers that are close is quite frankly alarming.
Over the last 24 hours, a new name has been thrown into the mix; Yannick Carrasco.
The story comes from AS in Spain, who state that United, along with other Premier League sides, have ‘knocked on his door’ about a potential transfer.
Carrasco has ‘suitors’ on English shores, from United, to Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. However, Diego Simeone would like to keep the Belgian at the Wanda Metropolitano due to his impressive performances last year.
AS adds that his £54.1m (€60m) release clause makes Carrasco an ‘attractive proposition’ for the potential buyer, with the player considering a ‘change of scene’ in 2022/23.
There’s no doubt that the need for a new winger is 100% there. Antony has been linked heavily, though it does seem as though United are now exploring other possibilities.
Carrasco’s experience could be a key factor in this move. Outside of Cristiano Ronaldo, this is a very young United squad and perhaps that bit of an older presence is what Erik ten Hag is looking at.
The Belgian’s versatility is another big plus. Carrasco can play on either wing, while also having the ability to be deployed through the middle too.
I’m all for this deal if United genuinely think Carrasco is an obtainable target.
