Match Preview: Manchester United vs West Ham United (Premier League home, 2020)

It’s time. The Red Devils can move into the Premier League’s top-four this evening, though they’ll have to defeat an old foe to do so. Ahead of the all-important clash, here’s our big Man United vs West Ham United preview.

David Moyes will be wanting to upset the applecart. He’s still sour about his United dismissal, and after a convincing performance against Chelsea earlier on in the season, the Scot will be hoping for the same again here. It’s up to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Stadium: Old Trafford.
Kick-off time: 18:00 (UK).
Referee: Paul Tierney.
TV Channel: Sky Sports Main Event/Premier League.

The Hammers aren’t to be taken lightly. However, if the 20-time Premier League champions play their best football, three points should be the end result.

I know goal difference could become a huge factor on the final day, so if we win this one by three clear goals, we can afford a one-goal loss to Leicester City on Sunday. Win it by five (which is a big ask, I know) and we’re looking almost certain to play Champions League football next term.

Form Guide

Solskjaer’s side had been insanely hot – until the FA Cup defeat last time out. Now, we’re hoping to see a reaction. United’s league form has been pretty good, having won five and drawn two since lockdown ended.

West Ham have thrown up a real mixed bag. They’ve won three games, including their last two in a row, lost three, and drawn one. Make no mistake, they’ll come to Old Trafford tonight feeling very confident.

Team News

Eric Bailly looks certain to miss this one. However, Luke Shaw could make his return after the gaffer claimed that everyone but the Ivorian centre-half was fit and ready to go.

Will Solskjaer make changes? At this stage, he has to play his best XI and get the three points in the bag first. His tinkering at the weekend definitely didn’t help.

West Ham are also looking in pretty good shape. Both Robert Snodgrass and Ryan Fredericks will undergo late fitness tests. Perhaps one or both will be available to Moyes.

Match Odds

Manchester United 2/9

Draw 21/4

West Ham United 10/1

Last Meeting: United 0-2 West Ham

It was The Hammers laughing last time out. Goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Creswell sealed a comfortable victory for the hosts on a day to forget in London back in September.

Let’s hope for better this time.

Old Trafford Faithful’s prediction: Manchester United 2-0 West Ham United

We have to be feeling confident and we should see a reaction. Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial should see United home clear, heading into the final game of the season against Leicester City in the driver’s seat.
