Man United will have a clear run at signing powerhouse midfielder this summer: report

Manchester United Football Club will have a clear run at signing Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic this summer, according to the Daily Mirror. Apparently, Juventus were also interested, but they baulked at the asking price when the Stamford Bridge club told them he’d cost £40million.

Now, Jose Mourinho and the Red Devils are the favourites to sign the Serbian powerhouse, with the player keen on a reunion with the self-proclaimed Special One.

For me, I was a bit underwhelmed at the prospect of signing Matic at first, but when you delve deeper into the thought of it, the move makes a whole lot of sense.

We’ve been craving that top-class holding midfielder for years, and it’s such a key area of the field. The 29-year-old could come in, fit into Mourinho’s system seamlessly and offer plenty of extra protection to our young defence, whilst also giving Paul Pogba the freedom to bomb forward.

In the modern market, £40million isn’t all that ridiculous for a player who is proven at the highest level. Heck, just look at the £50million that Manchester City forked out to bring in Kyle Walker.

Now it’s up to Edward Woodward to get the chequebook out and push the deal over the line as quickly as possible, so we can get him integrated into the squad before the season starts.
