Man United have held talks with Jorge Mendes over the potential transfer of Vitinha.

Recently, all the rumours have been linking Manchester United with a move to sign Frenkie de Jong in the midfield position.

At the end of the day, it’s a deal that would make sense. The Old Trafford club have lost Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata. Those guys have to be replaced.

However, the Portuguese media believe Erik ten Hag has his eyes set on another midfield player; Vitinha.

The 22-year-old currently plies his trade for FC Porto over in Portugal, contributing in a major way to everything positive about his club.

Now, Record believe United are set to exercise the £34m (€40m) release clause in the midfielder’s contract. In fact, they go big in their headline, claiming that an ‘imminent departure’ is expected.

Record adds that the Premier League’s ‘top emblem’ will activate the said clause, with the Portugal international set to head to the Premier League this summer.

United have held talks with agent Jorge Mendes, who represents Vitinha, with the player said to be ‘destined’ for a switch to British shores.

I’d be all over this move. Vitinha has impressed massively over in his homeland, going from strength to strength as a player every season.

The transfer fee absolutely seems very reasonable for all involved parties, while Vitinha is someone who could start for us from day one. It also means there’s enough money left in the bank to bring in De Jong, too. Assuming that’s what Ten Hag wants to do of course.

United have always done pretty well when buying from Portugal. The style of play translates nicely to English football, so it makes sense to play it safe in a summer where major change is required.

Do you think Vitinha would be a good signing for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
