Man United will get Kieran Trippier deal done this summer

Man United are expected to complete a deal for Kieran Trippier this summer, according to Dean Jones.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now preparing his side for yet another Premier League campaign, where Manchester United hopes feel greater than they have been heading into any season for the last five to ten years.

Jadon Sancho is signed, sealed and delivered. Raphael Varane isn’t too far away. However, you still feel one or two further additions could make all the difference.

A name that has been consistently linked with a potential move to the Theatre of Dreams is Kieran Trippier. Obviously, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has very little in the way of competition at United last season. Solskjaer is looking to rectify that.

Now, we’ve been given perhaps the clearest indication that United’s pursuit of Trippier could well be successful.

Journo Dean Jones expects United to sign the defender this summer, claiming that the ‘deal will be done’, with Trippier’s current side, Atletico Madrid, already trying to find a replacement.

“I honestly think this deal will be done,” Jones told The Football Terrace podcast, transcribed by The Express.

“Trippier is confident that Atletico Madrid are working on finding a replacement for him and as soon as they are far enough down the road that that’s been clinched he should be able to negotiate with United.

“So it’s just about patience really, it was never a priority for United to get this deal done.”

As Jones says, United have kind of just remained patient with this one, knowing that they’ll have little in the way of serious competition, allowing Solskjaer to focus on other targets first.

Now, it just feels like a case of waiting for Atleti to sign their Trippier replacement, before the Madrid outfit will allow the Englishman to return back to his hometown.

At this stage of his career, this feels like the perfect move for Trippier. He’ll be heading back to Manchester where most of his family live, playing for the team he supported as a young boy.

For United, they’ll be getting an excellent player. Don’t forget Trippier won La Liga last season, while he offers something completely different to what the aforementioned Wan-Bissaka bings to the table.

At the right price, this could be a really astute signing, with Solskjaer looking for a similar push for Wan-Bissaka that Alex Telles offered to Luke Shaw in 2020/21.
