Manchester United have landed their man in Jadon Sancho, now, a new centre-half takes priority.
Jadon Sancho is signed, sealed and delivered. Now, we’re just waiting on an official announcement from Manchester United.
The Old Trafford club simply cannot rest on their laurels now they’ve spent close to £100million on Sancho, though. There are other areas of this playing squad that needs work. Amongst those issues that need fixing is centre-half.
According to Manchester Evening News journalist Rich Fay, United will ‘now go all out’ to sign a player in that key position now that the Sancho transfer is close to being finalised.
Fay also adds that United are looking to add competition at both right-back and midfield, though a new central defender is now the number one priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
In terms of personnel, nobody is named by Fay. However, in the past, players like Raphael Varane, Pau Torres and Joules Kounde have been linked.
Right now at United, outside of Harry Maguire, no centre-half has a safe position in that Reds squad. You look at the always-injured Eric Bailly, the inconsistent Victor Lindelof and the young Axel Tuanzebe. United can’t put full trust in any of them right now.
Personally, I’d love United to go out there and sign Varane. Although he’s getting up there in age at 28, Solskjaer needs someone who can slot in right away and make an instant impact – ala Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool and Ruben Dias at City.
Now, it’s down to Edward Woodward to go out there, not mess about and get Solskjaer his number one defensive target. Get that done and there’s no reason why we can’t challenge for the title in 2021/22.
