Man United will make a move to sign Jan Oblak: report

Man United are interested in signing Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, Jan Oblak.

For all their faults over the last half-decade or so, Manchester United have been brilliant at choosing their goalkeepers. From David de Gea to Dean Henderson with a little Sergio Romero sprinkled in the middle.

However, it seems as though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is dissatisfied with his current crop of shot-stoppers. Enter, Jan Oblak.

According to The Sun in an exclusive, United will make an ‘ambitious’ move to sign the top-class 28-year-old, with Reds star De Gea going the other way.

Following a poor Europa League final display, United are keen to get De Gea’s £375,000-a-week off the wage bill.

Obviously, De Gea and Henderson have been locked in battle to earn the starting job this season, though Solskjaer’s advisers have been pushing for a move to sign the Slovenian Oblak.

In terms of a transfer fee, Oblak would cost around £70m, with the cost reduced due to De Gea heading in the opposite direction. Apparently, a move back to the club where he made his name would appeal to the Spaniard – if United can get the financial side of the deal to work.

Oblak is an excellent goalkeeper who’d improve us as soon as he walks through the door. However, I do wonder about Henderson. I still believe he deserves his chance over the course of a full season to prove his worth, but seemingly, Solskjaer wants to head in a different direction.

Following news that a move for Tom Heaton is all-but done, there’s going to be a real shake-up in that goalkeeping department this summer…
