Manchester United have themselves a real Paul Pogba problem. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been without his superstar midfielder for the last two-and-a-half months due to an ankle issue – and things got worse this Monday.
In the latest injury saga twist, Solskjaer ruled Pogba out of United’s game against Colchester United this evening due to ‘illness’. However, just hours before the Reds manager met the media, Pogba was spotted dancing at his brother’s wedding.
Last night, the Daily Mail offered a transfer update on the mercurial Frenchman. They state that United won’t allow the superstar 26-year-old to leave in January despite the aforementioned concerns.
Understandably, the fans are beginning to question Pogba’s commitment. This is a player who has largely underwhelmed since his big-money move back to the Theatre of Dreams – and the fact that he tried to quit out on the club over the summer didn’t help his case.
It feels to me like United are trying to protect their asset. Obviously, if they’re forced into selling Pogba they want to get as big-a-transfer fee as possible to let him go. That won’t be allowed to happen if every man and their dog knows he’ll be going.
With eighteen months left on Pogba’s deal, while United still hold the option for a further year, the ball is in Solskjaer’s court. Perhaps the 26-year-old won’t leave in January but for me, he’ll definitely be on his way out next summer…
