Manchester United links to Raphael Varane are still making headlines over in Spain.
Indeed, Manchester United are constantly being rumoured with a move for a new centre-half of some description this summer. After all, it makes sense given the defensive struggles the Red Devils have dealt with this term.
The name that keeps popping up most frequently is Raphael Varane. Feel free to take a look at our long backlog of stories run on the Frenchman here…
Apparently, it’s claimed United ‘would not hesitate’ to make their move for the 27-year-old who is ‘very desirable’ for a few clubs. The other clubs linked with interest are Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
Check out the Sport spread on the Varane story here:
The Sport Witness story covers a few different Spanish claims linking United with Varane, which leads us to believe there is some truth to it.
I guess it would be an easy link to make, though, given United are shipping goals for fun at the back right now. However, I still don’t see how Real Madrid would even consider the possibility of parting with Varane.
He’s amongst the best centre-halves in the game. He’d improve any side in world football. Why would Zinedine Zidane willingly let Varane leave?
It all comes down to Varane’s desire to move away. With a winding down contract, he could be the one forcing an exit. In which case, Real Madrid would have no option but to sell him this term – though that’d take some serious pushing on Varane’s part.
Then it’s about beating out the competition. At Paris Saint-Germain, Varane would be heading back to his homeland, moving to a side where trophies are guaranteed year-in-year-out. He wouldn’t be afforded that luxury at United…
We’ll just have to wait and see how this one plays out.
