Man United will not block a potential Cristiano Ronaldo exit in January.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United were always going to look wholly different to the Red Devils of old. This manager demands 100% every single time you step out on that field.
The new system suits some players, whereas for others, it doesn’t quite work. One man who absolutely fits into the latter category is Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s through no fault of his own, I’d like to add.
Ronaldo looks every bit approaching 40 years old this season. Be it this system or time finally caching up with him, the GOAT looks that half-a-yard slower than needed. Quite frankly, it’s sad.
Well, the latest report from The Telegraph (subscription required) claims that Ten Hag ‘will not’ stand in the way of the star, with Ronaldo ‘eyeing’ a January exit from United. Honestly, you can’t really blame him…
Without going into too much detail as it’s all in the article, this one feels like it has been coming. Ronaldo pushed hard for a summer exit that never came his way. No doubt you’d imagine a deal will be likelier to happen in the mid-season window as the Reds probably just want his wages off the books at this stage.
So what happens with Cristiano Ronaldo in January?
We’re talking about someone who is used to playing at the highest level. Perhaps none of the big clubs will want to take that risk with Ronaldo anymore.
It could be a reality check for the striker, who may have to step away from those top tier clubs and eye a move to a different country. A Portugal return sounds intriguing, as does a move to Holland. Both will likely come with massive pay reductions, though, so that’s something Ronnie would also have to get his head around.
