Manchester United had a quiet but effective summer. Three players were added, all have already proven their capabilities.
There were groans amongst the fans that more squad members weren’t sold or moved on, but remember Rome wasn’t built in a day. With the English transfer window now closed United can no longer buy – though that won’t stop overseas clubs trying to move for our prized assets.
We covered a story from The Guardian earlier today, in which it was claimed that United have ‘no intention’ of letting a certain Paul Pogba leave this summer.
That has since been backed up by ESPN, who add another snippet… They say that the Reds are concerned that Real Madrid could make a move for the star 26-year-old before the September 2nd transfer deadline, though United plan on resisting any moves for Pogba.
Here is the problem for English clubs. The FA have put them at a major disadvantage in the transfer market. Not only have they given United (and others) less time to buy players, but if a club comes in and tries to prise away our top stars, there is no time to draft in a replacement.
For that reason and that reason alone I fully expect Pogba to remain at Old Trafford for the full 2019/20 season, but if a monumental offer comes in, for a player who doesn’t want to be here, what’s to stop United from cashing in…?
