Man United are keen to secure the future of Marcus Rashford before the end of 2022.

There can be no doubt that Manchester United Football Club are finally moving in the right direction again. Simply put, Erik ten Hag as been a breath of fresh air.

The work he’s undertaking isn’t easy, though the players are fully buying in. No solitary footballer epitomises it more than Marcus Rashford.

Our homegrown hero struggled under Ralf Rangnick. He’s rediscovering his best with Ten Hag in control. Slowly but surely, I’m confident Rashford will return to his brilliant best. We’re seeing it unfold right before our eyes.

One problem; Rashford has a winding down contract.

The attacker has eight months left on his current deal. Now the club hold the option to trigger those terms by a further year, though in an ideal world, the Reds will tie Rashford down to a new, long-term deal.

According to the Daily Mail, that’s the plan.

Apparently, United ‘will secure’ the future of the key 25-year-old before the end of 2022, as the club look to fend off interest from other sides.

As is well-documented, the striker’s agent met with PSG over the summer regarding a possible move. The player sought a new challenge. Though plenty has changed since then.

Ten Hag views Rashford as someone ‘central’ to his plans, which makes sense, particularly as the Englishman scored his 100th United goal over the weekend.

There is a small issue, with the Daily Mail claiming it may be difficult for United to sort a new long-term deal out for Rashford before the World Cup -which begins in just a few weeks.

So what’ll happen?

We expect that United will trigger the one-year extension in Rashford’s contract at some time in the not-too-distant future, to buy themselves more time.

The good news is that Rashford is happy and enjoying his football again, meaning there’s a better chance a long-term deal can be done. The Englishman is thriving under Ten Hag while playing for his boyhood club. That has to be viewed as a positive step.

As long as United keep improving, I absolutely believe Rashford will stick around. Though he wants to win trophies. He’s ambitious. United have to match that desire and drive and start to deliver silverware.
