Manchester United fans are probably already getting sick of the name Jadon Sancho. I feel your pain, we’ve been covering these stories pretty relentlessly over the last few weeks.
Alas, today we have another update in the saga for you. It comes from Catalan newspaper Sport (Monday print edition), translated excellently via Sport Witness.
Sport were running a feature on FC Barcelona, in which United are indirectly involved. According to said report, Chelsea and the Reds are fighting it out directly to win Sancho’s signature.
The Catalan outlet actually go pretty bold, claiming United have won the battle to sign the superstar attacker, adding that the Reds have ‘convinced’ Sancho to sign for them. They do make it clear that this agreement hasn’t been made official, mind.
I don’t want to be a jinx here but all the signs are pointing to a positive outcome for United. Media from all over Europe are pointing Sancho in the direction of the 20-time Premier League champions, and what a statement signing it’d make.
You feel that United are perhaps one or two marquee signings away from being able to compete on a regular basis. Sancho would certainly be that, while offering close to a decade of service due to being so young in age.
The link-up between him and Marcus Rashford certainly whets the appetite, though The Glazers will have to dig deep into those pockets as Sancho wouldn’t be cheap.
