Man United are without a trio of first-teamers for the away leg of the Carabao Cup tie against Nottingham Forest.
The aim going into the campaign was to finish inside the top four and hopefully have a decent run at winning a trophy. Despite suffering a setback away at Arsenal this past weekend, the Red Devils are looking good under Erik ten Hag.
Tomorrow night, attention turns to a Carabao Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest. The first leg takes place away from home tomorrow, with United having a real chance at making it to a Wembley final.
Make no mistake about it, the newly-promoted Premier League side are absolutely here on merit. They also deserve to be in the final four, so taking them for granted would be a mistake.
Anyway, ahead of the match, Ten Hag met the media to conduct his typical pre-match press conference. He’d confirm that a trio are set to miss this game through injury; Diogo Dalot, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho.
Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:
“The players who were not available for the Arsenal game – Dalot, Martial, Sancho,” confirmed the boss, per ManUtd.com. “Are also not available for tomorrow.”
Obviously, Dalot and Martial have been nursing injuries lately. The pair missed the game against Arsenal over the weekend and they were always unlikely to play here due to the quick turnaround. Let’s hope the problems aren’t anything too serious and they’re back available soon – particularly as there’s a really busy run of fixtures over the next month.
Sancho’s case is different. He’s been struggling with some off-field issues, hence why we’ve not seen him since before the World Cup. The Englishman is a key part of this squad so the sooner he’s back the better, though United will not rush his return as that’s the last thing he needs. There’s no real timeframe on his availability, but I’d suspect he’ll be eased back in gradually.
At the end of the day, the season is long, Sancho and the injured lads were always going to get their minutes.
Now, the question for Ten Hag is does he rest players here? I’d guess that we’ll see some minor team news changes and tactical tweaks, with the main core of first-team regulars involved due to what’s at stake.
Get well soon, lads!
