Man United working hard to extending contracts of three first-team players: report

Manchester United have several players who’s contracts end at the culmination of the current season.

While recruitment last summer was poor, the Red Devils have also made a mistake in not agreeing to new deals with some key squad members who are at the club. However, it does look as though United are trying to sort that out as quickly as possible.

According to sources at ESPN, United remain committed to tie down Ashley Young, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata to new long-term contracts.

The three regular first-teamers are currently free to talk to overseas clubs about signing a pre-contract agreement if they so choose, but ESPN’s article also states that they’re keen to stay. That indicates to me that they’re likely disputing their wages, or in Young’s case, he wants assurances about regular playing time.

Personally, all should stay. Young will likely be given a one-year rolling contract as is the case at United with players of that age, while both Herrera and Mata have been brilliant over the last month or so.

Now, it’s just about getting the deals signed, sealed and delivered as quickly as possible before the vultures really begin to circle… Over to you, Edward Woodward.
